Chinese President Xi Jinping visited a small river in China’s Sichuan province on Wednesday to give a speech to his troops.
The water purifying plant is part of a project in the Chinese province of Gansu, which is the largest in the country and home to some of the world’s most polluted water bodies.
The government has pledged to clean up the water in the river by 2022.
Xi said it was important for Chinese people to have clean drinking water and it was also important to improve people’s livelihoods.
He said the water treatment plant will also reduce air pollution, reduce the burden on the environment and help improve the health of people.
“This project is a new step forward in the efforts to clean the rivers and streams of Sichu and its people,” Xi said.
